It’s in January, tradition has it, that Christ left the manger on what is colloquially called ” little Christmas,” Jan. 6, after being visited by three wise men or the Three Kings. This is tradition – Christ was probably born in March. But Dec. 25 is celebrated as Christmas because it fell during a major Persian holiday week for the winter solstice and the Roman emperor was trying to make everyone in the empire happy. The other part of the tradition is these Three Kings brought gold, frankincense and myrrh to the manger.
