New hipster slang alert: “Are you down with the clown?” Definition: Are you a Trump supporter?
The “clown” in this new slang phrase is Donald Trump. I was recently asked if I’m “down with the clown.” Though I lean along the small “l” libertarian lines, and therefore am a huge fan of neither Mr. Trump nor Hillary Clinton, one thing is certain: Trump is no clown.
Although Trump does have a kind of cartoonish persona, that persona has connected with much of the American electorate, for good reason. After so many years of mainstream leaders offering nothing but politically correct tiptoeing around the nation’s most serious problems, Trump has expressed a willingness to address issues such as radical Islamic terror, immigration, crime, the economy and taxes with a refreshing approach that no other politician has.
In fact, I salute Mr. Trump for reflecting the opinions of so many Americans, and for not putting his rather colorful head in the sand.
Whether or not you back him, specific market sectors and stocks will go down in value if the billionaire businessman is elected, and investors need to plan now for the fallout.
